The Best Attractions for a First-Time Liverpool Visitor
Liverpool is an incredibly diverse city with plenty to see and do, from the attractions which centre around the central Liverpool Football Club and home grounds, to the inspiration Liverpool played in shows like Peaky Blinders, the history of the Beatles, and of course the link between Liverpool and the doomed Titanic.
In this blog, we’re taking you through just some of the best attractions and things to see and do in the city if you’re a first time visitor to Liverpool, focussing our advice on the area close to the Heeton Concept Hotel in Liverpool centre.
The Beatles Statue and Museum
The four members of the Beatles were from Liverpool, and so it follows that the city is very proud to display and celebrate the heritage and link between the band and their status as Liverpudlians. On the dockside in the centre of the city, you will find a status of the four musicians; a lifesize depiction of the group which is in a prime location for photos.
If you’re interested in finding out more, The Beatles Story Museum is well worth a visit as it lets you in on some of the history and the journey towards becoming one of the world’s most popular and successful bands, or you can join the Beatles official tour and explore the areas of the city that the band frequented and spent their time in the build up to worldwide fame.
Tour of Anfield
The official home ground for Liverpool FC is located within close proximity of many of the family hotels in Liverpool, and is well worth the stadium tour (even if football isn’t your passion). The combination of the enthusiasm of the tour guides and operators throughout the stadium grounds, to the interesting history of the area and the incredibly complex psychological games that are at play both on and off the pitch, make this an insightful and entertaining way to spend an afternoon.
The stadium has a vast car park and is super accessible from all over the city, making it an easy stopping point on your tour of Liverpool.
River Cruise
The River Mersey cuts into Liverpool city centre and creates the dockside which has become such an iconic part of Liverpool’s industrial history. Today, you can hop on a river cruise from one of the hotels near Concert Square Liverpool, and learn about the Albert Dock, the old ships, the pier, the Liver building, and even the Iron Men art feature installed by Anthony Gormley over towards Formby just north of the city.
Exploring the countryside outside of the city
Liverpool itself boasts a broad industrial history with tons to see and do within the city, but it is also surrounded by some exquisite countryside which is well worth a visit — including the nature reserve in Formby which connects forest land to the sand dunes which line the coast. Keep an eye out for red squirrels on your way back to the Heeton Concept Hotel — and be sure to steal a glance down the iconic Footballer’s Row with its mansions and futuristic celebrity homes.
